The Programa Portal: ensino-aprendizagem de línguas modernas is a teaching and learning program of modern languages focused on citizenship, social inclusion and intercultural dialogue.  It began in 2003 as an extension project of language teaching, it was redesigned in 2009, and in 2011 was transformed into a language program with the main objective of developing actions in teaching, research and extension projects. We offer a variety of modern language courses: Spanish, English, French, Portuguese composition and Portuguese as a foreign language.

Classes are held at the Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UEFS), a public institution of higher education in Brazil, located in the city of Feira de Santana, Bahia. One of the objectives of the program is to establish intercultural dialogues with other nations and this way contribute to the internationalization of the university and to a better understanding of different cultures. Thus, we decided to include Portuguese as a foreign language to accommodate the interest of international students in Brazilian culture and facilitate their research.

Why study Portuguese in Feira de Santana?

Feira de Santana is the second most populous and the second largest city in Bahia, Brazil. Feira de Santana also is an important stopping point for travelers, containing a major junction of Northeastern Brazil's highways. It is an important and diverse commercial and industrial center, with affordable cost of leaving and it is close to Salvador, the capital of Bahia and the former colonial capital of Brazil.  Feira de Santana's important geographic location and the hospitality of its people continues to attract new residents. Feira de Santana is famous for its parties and festivals, such as Senhora Sant'Ana in the last week of July (26 July), which features activities such as bumba-meu-boi, segura-a-véia and burrinha.
